Our Campaign Story

At 70 years old, Mdm Sagaamary Francis has faced many challenges. She raised three children of her own and, driven by her belief that every child deserves a family, also opened her home to care for her five-year-old grandson and her brother’s 10-year-old grandson, both of whom were left without their parents.

After losing her husband to cancer in 2019, Mdm Francis struggled with grief, isolation, and an arm injury, all while continuing to work late-night shifts to support her family.

With her children living overseas and limited contact with her siblings, Mdm Francis carried these burdens largely on her own.

Thankfully, she was introduced to the Singapore Red Cross ElderAid programme, where volunteers like Florence Sim began visiting her regularly, providing comfort and companionship. Through these visits, Mdm Francis found solace and joy amidst her responsibilities. Though she can’t always join in all the activities due to her caregiving duties, Mdm Francis deeply values the connection and support that Florence and the volunteers offer. She hopes to stay healthy to continue caring for the children who depend on her.
