Our Campaign Story

11-year-old Zakeera Azrina has faced a series of challenges growing up, from living with autism to her family’s financial struggles. She lives in a cramped one-room rental flat and her mother’s part-time earnings barely cover their basic necessities. Everyday tasks in school – like counting money during recess, or interacting with others – became daunting, due to her anxiety.

She was introduced to the Young Hearts programme in 2023, and has since found a renewed sense of hope. With the support of the programme’s caring tutors and volunteers, she has been steadily making progress in her academics and discovering her artistic talents. The safe and nurturing environment of the Young Hearts programme has also given her a place to open up and share her feelings without judgment. Today, Azrina has a newfound confidence and dreams of becoming a police officer or an artist. Her journey shows how support, understanding, and care can make a real difference in a child's life.

Located in Yishun and Tampines, the Singapore Red Cross’ Young Hearts programme supports students from challenging backgrounds through tuition, mentorship, enrichment activities, and social excursions. With the help of volunteers, partners, and donors like yourself, children like Azrina are given the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
